En Argentina las parrillas para asado de chapa más utilizadas son los Chulengos. Se puede afirmar que en e sur argentino, es uno de los primeros lugares donde se comenzaron a fabricar las parrillas tambor, como se conoce también a los Chulengos.

Chulengo es el nombre con el que se denomina a las crías de  los guanacos, animales que suelen habitar las zonas cordilleranas de Latinomamérica.

Cuando uno ve una parrilla hecha con un tacho de 200 litros, se parece a este tipo de animales autóctonos de algunas zonas de la Argentina.

Chulengo es muy versátil y adaptable a distintos usos, sobre todo en zonas de mucho viento, donde a veces es difícil hacer un buen asado.

Por su versatilidad y tamaño, las parrillas tambor se las puede ver en patios, terrazas, se utiliza en parrillas al paso, hasta se pueden ver en la calle que las usan para hacer y vender tortillas a la parrilla.

Funcionalidades

Los chulengos se realizan adaptando tachos de chapa de 200 litros, y se le pueden adecuar distintas funcionalidades: Fogonero, mesa, chimenea, sector para plancha. El chulengo puede ser móvil o fijo.

Algunas ya vienen recubiertos con ladrillo refractario o común en su interior para facilitar la conservación del calor.

En  Argentina es muy fácil encontrar lugares donde venden los chulengos y existen de todas las calidades. Es realmente una parrilla que funciona muy bien para hacer asados.

La desventaja que tiene, es la durabilidad, la chapa no es muy resistente al calor con lo cual el material se degrada y reduce la vida útil del chulengo.

La chapa también se utiliza para construir parrillas a gas o eléctricas. la fabricación de este tipo de productos es industrial, con lo cual la chapa se combina con otros materiales para lograr una mayor tiempo de vida del producto.
